There are dozens of toys out there marketed to those who love to hear themselves sing! Each new piece of karaoke equipment is a must-have for the target audience. Popular movie soundtracks are instantly sapped of lead vocals and rushed to the karaoke market for all the teens. Naturally, then, follow the microphones, stereo systems, television attachments, etc, that go with a good “rig.”

Video games are marketed to a more discriminating crowd of teens+ that test one’s ability to follow notes and stay in tune, much to the amusement of others. Even American Idol has a Karaoke video game with accessories! So the karaoke craze continues to burn a trail and now heads into the realm of cyberspace. Visit a little place called midomi to see what this is all about. (Think of notes: Do, re, mi.. that’s where the site gets its name.)

At this site, in beta version for a couple years now, up and coming “artists” such as yourself can post their vocals to any song as long as they have a microphone and the internet. First, you use your mic to hum or sing a few bars of a song you like. The search engine uses your voice to choose several songs it “thinks” you’re looking for. This part can be a little iffy, but there’s also your basic manual keyword box if you’d prefer to use it instead.

Once you’ve found a song, you can listen to the original recording, hear users that have tried it themselves, or record your own rendition. The super cool part about this is you can build a fan base, get comments, and share your favorites with others via Facebook. The site does a pretty good job of updating ratings and providing listeners with a sample of top recordings, most commented, featured, etc.

This site has infinite possibilities as well as, you can imagine, some drawbacks. First of all, the site is international, so you never know with what accent you might hear your favorite tune. This can be pleasant, or in most of my experiences, horribly, horribly bad. International accents are beautiful, don’t get me wrong. I just wouldn’t attempt a song in any other language but my own, and with good reason. Regardless of your preference, however, the community is there for everyone and the good, the bad, and the “what were they thinking?” are just as free to post as anyone else. The rating system does help weed out the less savory samples, and there are many incredibly talented people to listen to out there.

Final analysis: It’s a nifty site to tool around on for a bit, especially if you really can sing. I don’t see it rivaling MySpace any time soon, but there isn’t any real competition out there for a site like this, so the sky’s the limit. Check it out, sing a few tunes, and see what kind of comments you get. You just might be the next cyber karaoke e-star!

Alright readers, get ready to have your minds proverbially blown!

Alright readers, get ready to have your minds proverbially blown! Imagine you are shopping in a grocery store, strolling through the aisles, when all of a sudden the cereal begins talking to you. You step back, and look around. No one else seems to notice. You move forward again and hear the commercial persuading you to select and purchase Lucky Charms. Have you finally lost the last little hold you had on sanity? Or is it a hypersonic sound beam, intended for your ears only?

Chances are, in the near future, supermarket shelves will be lined with these sneaky sound systems, but they aren’t just for use in advertising. This ultra-cool technology remotely transfers sound waves in tightly focused “columns” of sound. Once directed to and landing on any surface, (ie. ceilings, floors, walls, paintings, sculptures, advertisements, or even people!) they instantly become a source of sound. The sound waves can then be processed and heard by only people in the direct path of the audio. Surprisingly, the sound seems to come from inside the head, as it acts like a speaker while transmitting the sounds to the brain.

Imagine the implications this could have for a trip to the zoo or museum! A person standing in front of an exhibit might be able to listen to an informative lecture on the subject without disturbing those around them. The need for headphones and bulky “audio guide” systems could be completely eliminated. Automobile manufacturers could use the technology for hands-free cell phone conversations which would reduce the possibility of accidents while driving.

So how does it all work? Well, I’m not an audio expert, but a little Googling revealed the science behind the innovation. Normal sound travels on small pressure waves in the air. Changing the sound wave changes the frequencies that “pop up” within the wave. If you add some high-frequency sounds into the mix (sounds human ears can’t detect,) they generate new low-frequency sounds that we can hear. With a product like this, you can step into the beam and hear the information, or step out and not be bothered by it. The genius that invented a working model for this concept, Woody Norris, received the Lemelson-MIT prize of $500,000 a few years back. The father of 11 has over 50 patents, including a personal helicopter! With 11 children, no wonder he felt it necessary to divert unwanted sounds… It would certainly make airplane rides more enjoyable if we could direct children’s screaming through Hypersonic Sound Beams!

This year my family was in rare form with our gift-giving. The tree was practically buried in presents and then there’s always one or two “secret” presents that don’t come out until all the others are unwrapped! I watched in anticipation as my sister opened her first gift: a Flip video recorder. Eagerly, I scanned my presents looking for a similarly-shaped gift. I opened a crock pot, a necklace, and a treasure chest of scrapbooking supplies. No Flip. I’m happy with my gifts, but seriously! The Flip is one of the coolest video recorder products on the market this year.

So what is the Flip? A while back, it was known as the “Point and Shoot” camera. With the new name, it received new features and software to up its already high coolness factor. Two of these features are extra battery power and better video quality than the original. (Naturally, we all headed outside early Christmas morning see what the gadget could do with outdoor footage. The difference in quality was noticeable, but not enough to really matter.)

There are two versions of this cam: the $125 version captures 30 minutes of video, while for a mere $40 more you can get the 60-minute version. I highly recommend forking over the extra; what if a UFO hovers into view on the 31st minute? Both versions are sleek and sexy, about the size of the classic iPod, and just as light-weight. It’s a real “bare bones” approach to buttons.

A flip-up USB connector is one of the best features, allowing instant transfer of your video to your computer without fussing with cables. By far one of sweetest additions to the “classic” model is the software installed in the Flip. A plug-and-play type interface prompts you through a dialog that allows for posting the video straight to YouTube and AOL Video. And we all know that’s the real reason you wanted the Flip in the first place, right?

In a “don’t wanna miss a thing” world, the Flip is a necessity! You don’t need to find that just-right light, take a picture with your camera phone, or fiddle with complicated buttons and endless settings. It’s sweet and simple and definitely on the list for my birthday!

Some mind-blowing A/V accomplishments.

Audiovisual technologies facilitate and enhance communication capabilities, but it is vital that their integration into your existing technology infrastructure be expertly conducted through proper and appropriate system designs. Audiovisual equipment refers to equipment and applications that deal with sound and sight. The audiovisual world includes microphones, audio tape recorders, audio mixers, sound systems, analog and digital cameras both still and video, film projectors, slide projectors, VCRs, CD players/recorders and DVD players/recorders, multi-functional devices and computer controlled sound and video systems.

The installation and integration of all equipment pieces into a working system is a complex engineering task. In order to make the audiovisual system functional with differing needs and technical know-how, the end-user interface design often requires customized solutions. In the audio industry, audiovisual innovations include projectors, screens, monitors, cameras and plasma displays. Broadcasting companies are creating a revolution in how we get and listen to audio. Innovation in this field means a compelling product portfolio that delivers complete audio solutions for performance audio, for computers, the internet, for home, for life–in short, for every conceivable need.

Audiovisual home service providers can seamlessly integrate almost anything—media walls, touch screen panels, speakers, structured cabling, etc., into your existing components or into the architectural integrity of any room. These innovations have not only enhanced entertainment but have also been useful for education. The use of audio visual equipment in teaching has made it possible to break geographical barriers and reach out to a wide range of students. Greater interaction between the teacher and the student has been made possible by integrating traditional knowledge with innovative means of reaching out to students.

For ensuring the right usage of any new technology some amount of regulation is essential. The audio-visual regulatory framework imposes a certain amount of control on the content providers. It redefines ’broadcasting’ by distinguishing between linear services and non-linear services. Linear services comprise of scheduled broadcasting on television platforms as well as the internet and on mobile phones. Linear services would be subject to the same rules as those which apply to broadcasting. Non-linear services comprise non-scheduled broadcasting including video-on-demand and web based news. Regulation would ensure that innovation happens in positive and constructive ways.

And you thought books were old school.

I have tried to convince many friends to listen to audio books online. This really is not any different to reading a regular book, except that someone else’s voice does the reading for you. Apparently the move from the ‘traditional book’ to a compact disc or mp3 has resulted in a large group of skeptical people who doubt that it is possible to truly appreciate a novel by listening, rather than physically reading. Funnily, it is actually the younger people that are harder to convince to give it a go.

Because my grandmother had grown up listening to stories told on the radio she was more than willing to listen to audio books online - in fact, she found it a pleasure as she could sit quite comfortably, do her cross stitch or even do the gardening while she listens to the recordings. Audio books have been around for a very long time, in fact, many of our grandparents grew up listening to the British Broadcasting Company with its serialized classics. History shows that as early as 1933 an anthropologist J.P. Harrington researched and recorded the oral histories of the Native American tribes.

The American Congress saw a need to provide extra resources for people with sight impairment, and as a result the “Books for the Adult Blind Project” was initiated. This project was the stepping stone for audio books or ‘talking books’ and before long the mass reproduction of them began. In later years the National Library Service provided a much needed public-service for blind citizens across America by recording millions of books in an audio format.

Audio Books and Popular Culture

Massive advancement in technology has driven the audio book online format into the reach of consumers who embraced the development with enthusiasm. It was in the early 1960’s when the introduction of the portable cassette player recorder allowed ease of use. This coincided with the ever increasing popularity of the pursuit for self-improvement. This style of recordings, with emphasis on instructional or educational subjects, became very popular. Self-help audio-books were well and truly in vogue and the initiative was expanded to include audio books on a wide variety of general topics such as the humanities.

Audio book recordings became even bigger and quickly a market was created that catered for people wanting to rent popular titles. Listening to audio book online became a multi-billion dollar industry and producers helped the industry grow by introducing high-quality recordings done with large casts of voices.

Today, the audio book concept has embraced leading edge technology which has made the product much more accessible to the general public than ever before. The vast array of product available can now be easily downloaded from the web and its formats incorporated into any digital listening device such as cell phones, MP3 players and iPods. In view of this modern and cutting edge tools, it is highly likely that the young people of today might even gain an appreciation for a classical author such as Jane Austen or William Shakespeare.

It is ironic that the advent of the audio book online has not fully replaced printed books version but instead has only highlighted the joys of books in general.

We've got a fix for this common Xbox 360 Problem.

Xbox 360 had been a very good gaming console, and we knew that it performed way better than pS3. But, recently there is a lot of issue around Xbox 360 red rings of death. From the red rings of death error causes to Microsoft’s promise to temporary fixes all over the net and to final solution had been gaining a lot of attention. So, lets discuss on the problem and its possible solutions in this article.

The real cause for red rings of death is not known to 100% accuracy, but the most discussed cause is “overheating of Xbox” and Microsoft failing to adopt proper cooling mechanisms within the Xbox. This has lead Microsoft into real problems and widespread hatred. Lets see what Microsoft is upto regarding this issue.

So, does Microsoft stand upto defend its product? Yes, indeed. Microsoft has promised to replace or repair all the consoles which are affected by these dreaded red rings of death error. But again this problem doesn’t seem to be fixed. Even after replacing some of the consoles, the new console again proves to have the same problem. Even the Xboxs which were repaired and sent back again felt victim for the dreaded “Xbox 360 red rings of death” problem. So, is there a solution, Read on…

There seems to be a wide spread temporary fix for this problem all over the net. Its the infamous “Towel Method”. Yes, i have tried it on my Xbox 360. Do you know what, It Works! But just after two or three days the red rings of death problem arises again. But, it can fixed temporarily again using the same method. My serious recommendation would be to not use this method. Its like sabotaging your own Xbox. This method will cause more serious problems in the long run and its not a permanent fix either. I recently found a permanent fix for this problem.

Yes, there is a permanent fix for the problem of “Xbox 360 red rings of death”, and has nothing to do with involving Microsoft either. I found out a guide online which gave me the exact methods to repair my Xbox with just some tools which can be found in the household. It had clear step by step video instructions on how to fix my console and abolish red rings of death problem. Now am happy that I found this guide and can play my halo3 again in my brand new Xbox with out those ugly red rings of death.

Wondering all about your TiVo unit? Check out our explanation of DVR technology.

What is DVR? DVR is a digital video recorder and is also known as a personal video recorder. Unlike a VCR, the DVR records directly to a disk or hard drive instead of to a video tape of sorts. DVR can be found on most computer software as well as being in the form of stand-along box units for television and film.

Many television set producers are now including DVR built in to the television. This enables the viewer to capture a program or movie into the memory of the television for later viewing. The DVR also is capable of recording much longer than a VCR and is also easily erased for repeated use.

What is DVR used for? It was first used by CBS in 1965 in an effort to freeze their sports footage. This was nearly impossible with their current operating system as the frozen images were not clear. In 1985, the DVR was first introduced for in-home use, though its deubt was not widespread. Thanks to the introduction of the DVR giant TiVo, many similar products are now on the market and are widespread. The DVR tends to allow for crisper picture quality and faster search through recorded material than its VHS counterparts.

What is DVR for the average consumer? Satellite companies are now utilizing DVR by adding it directly into customers’ in-home receiver boxes, enabling them to record and view television programming. Dual tuners have now been introduced in the DVR allowing viewers to watch one program while simultaneously being able to tape up to two other shows. Such recording takes place either by internally storing the program on a hard disk or by burning the program onto a DVD-RW, or a rewritable DVD.

Consumers also use them as a cost effective way for security. You can get DVR cards with up to 8 camera connections on them. This allows you to mount security cameras all around your property and record directly onto your PC. You can capture several days worth of video footage from several cameras into your DVR system on your computer.

What is DVR still used for commercially? CCTV companies also use DVR in their surveillance systems since DVR is able to record for extended lengths of time. DVR also provides a clearer picture, allowing for better quality results. It is used by banks, car dealerships, retail stores,a nd especially at mini-markets which are a prime target for crime. DVR recorder systems are helping combat crime by providing excellent images of people committing crimes. This makes it easier for law enforcement to capture the perpertrators and makes it easy to convict these peopl when the digital video recording is played back in court.

What is DVR in computer technology? DVR also exists on computers. Macintosh computers mainly utilize EyeTV software while Windows uses its Windows Media Center for the downloading and producing of its images recorded through DVR, though other operating systems are in the works as well.

New Internet video services provide more options for demanding couch potatoes... like me!

The Trend

Video delivered directly to your TV screen over high-speed internet through a dedicated set-top box. A few devices have been providing niche video this way, but new entrants like Sony and Apple could bring more mainstream offerings into play.

Why Now?

With broadband connections in most homes and the explosion of interest in homemade video, the times is ripe to move new viewing options from the sit-and-click- computer to the turn on, tune in, zone out TV environment.

How You’ll Benefit

The only thing better than TV is more TV. Cable can send only so many channels down the wire before it starts jamming up like traffic on your way to work. But, like the Web itself, Internet TV options are virtually limitless. An all-Christopher Walken channel? No problem.

The Web-Ready TV

Starting this summer, Sony will deliver free internet video through an optional box mounted on the back of it’s high-end Bravia sets. Announced pickings are slim — mostly video from AOL, Yahoo and Grouper, plus the movie trailers and music videos — but the entertainment giant could expand it’s offerings if the service is a hit. Although the adapter has no storage, Sony says the box can stream HD content live without hiccups.

The Everything Box

Diego, a software supplier for cable boxes, unveils its own device later this year, combining high-def cable TV with broadband programming. The box has a digital video recorder (DVR) and can play back CDs, DVDs, music files and photos, and it connects to the receivers over component cables to stream HD video from one set to the other.

The iTunes Connection

Apple TV doesn’t completely free you from your computer, but it brings a huge source of popular TV shows and movies — the iTunes store — to your living room. think of the box as a pipelinepumping your iTunes library (Mac or Pc; music, photos and video) to your TV. Apple has been characteristically secretive about the final features, but we know it will give you the option of connecting to your computer by Ethernet or next-gen 802.11n Wi-Fi, will buffer content on its internal 40-gigabyte hard drive rather than stream it (for smoother playback), and will support high-definition video.
