Hi there TyLLy_4,
Thanks for stumbling!! We’re glad you like Technowerkz. Hope to see you again soon!
January 26th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
THESE FIREMEN HAVE A LOT OF TIME ON THEIR HAND!
January 26th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Gives new meaning to the term, “hover craft!”
January 26th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Yea, they sure do!
January 26th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
What’s a Firemem? I think you mean Firemen, right?
January 27th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Brian,
Thanks for the typo correction.
January 27th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I wonder whose CAR that was? Probably needs new shocks and springs!
January 27th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
?!? Rockets are hard, they are lucky a simple thing didn’t go wrong and the car didn’t flip and fly like a free fire hose.
G
January 27th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
No kidding…I thought what if one of those hoses got caught on something when it went up. You’d think it really could flip and shoot sideways toward them. How nutty!
January 28th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
what a waste of water!
January 28th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Haha very nice, stumbled upon
January 28th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
I think they know what they’re doing, but it looked scary when they shut of the water . cool video ! thanks
January 29th, 2008 at 3:45 am
so what was the point? seems kind of dangerous and expensive for a government agency to involve themselves for no reason.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:40 am
MAybe they just wanted to demonstrate how much force a firehose can apply.
February 9th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
this video is ridiculously fake
February 9th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Steve,
Thanks for your post…
Are you serious? Ever held onto a firehose at full pressure? It’s a LOT of work just to keep standing up against it.
February 9th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Quite interesting, but I’m going to agree with Carrie, what’s the point? Seems quite wasteful of time and funding. This isn’t a training program, so really, why?
February 9th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Then again, I’m sure there’s days where there is just nothing to do, I’d do something similar if I were them too. They should try playing soccer/futbol with hoses.
February 12th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Car looks like a Ford Festiva weighs under 1800 lbs w/ the engine
fire hoses appear to be 6″ lines which could max out anywhere from 400 upwards of 1000 psi
number of nozzles 10
now lets do some math
10*12.5(approximate surface area of a 4″ nozzle)
so that’s 125 square inches
divide 1800 lbs by 125
if my math is correct it will only take 15 psi on each hose to lift the car.
this proves that there is no problem with the equipment being capable of pulling this feat off.
and no it is not really a waste. they have to run their pumps and flush their tanks every so often to be sure everything is working.
oh and they aren’t necessarily using treated water
February 13th, 2008 at 6:21 am
Wow, Joel, thanks for the engineering perspective.
February 13th, 2008 at 10:58 am
My son and his friends LOVE this — what a fun video! I’d like to to know how this idea came up among the fire fighters.
February 13th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Hi Cora,
Thanks for the post. I found the video on www.metacafe.com. Publisher didn’t include any background on who/where etc.
February 13th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Wow that’s a real cool video! I thought “wow that’s a lot of water” but still cool, then I read Joel’s comment above and thought “he seems to know what he’s talking about” I stumbled upon this and gave it thumbs up. Now I’ll check the rest of the site and bookmark it both in my own bookmarks and to my Del.icio.us account
February 13th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
And they told me hover cars weren’t possible. HA!
But thats really cool actually.
February 14th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
That’s totally fake, you can tell by the sunset over the wall, the photoshops are all wrong.
Totally psed, i could see that a mile away.
February 15th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Looks like something out of Garry’s Mod!

February 20th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
actually, in our town, in the labor day fair, the firefighters try to play “push-o-war”.
They use their fire hoses to push the barrel to the other side.
Everybody gets wet
February 20th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Why all the hate towards these guys.
Firefighters do one of the most dangerous and demanding jobs on the planet.
If they wanna cut back and have a mess about with the equipment then GOOD FOR THEM!!
Besides it was awesome lol!!
..Stumbled
February 20th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Sounds like fun! Pretty amazing pressure.
February 22nd, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Photoshopped.
February 24th, 2008 at 9:43 am
SWEET!!!
February 24th, 2008 at 11:14 am
Chris,
Thanks for the Stumble and sorry I didn’t post it sooner. It got caught in the spam filter for some reason and I have not checked that one in a few days :-0
February 24th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Also I agree they have a very dangerous and demanding job, and as someone mentioned earlier they have to clean their water tanks out periodically, so I can’t see too much harm in having some fun like this.
Especially with all the posts about people criticizing the waste of water, if you have ever been to Las Vegas, NV USA you’d find that much water probably evaporates from the Belllagio’s fountains every minute. It’s just insane what’s going on there, and they’re in the middle of the driest desert in the US. Not justifying wasting water, but put it in perspective.
And while I’m on my soapbox, I read that it is estimated that the public water supply in the US loses 30% of all drinkable water while going through the pipes due to leakage…30%! That’s where the concern should be voiced - to your municipal and county governments…
February 24th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Phil, I’d like to know how long you have been working with photoshop.
And to both Phil and Peter, do you know how ridiculously hard this would be to shop?
February 24th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Agreed, Will. In fact if it really is photoshopped, why would anybody go to the trouble of faking it? I mean it’s not as if its some kind of big news event, like the guy on the observation deck of the World Trade Center with a 767 in the background, you know? It’s just a bunch of firemen playing around.
In fact if anybody else wants to claim it’s photoshopped, how about posting a link to a similar video clip that is, and let’s see what it looks like…unless of course you’re just looking to get a rise out of other people…
March 19th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Where was the supervisor when these idiots were playing around. It amazing that no one was seriously hurt.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:22 am
I will believe Marco on the origin of the video since the protective equipment and trucks are all European style. As for the worries with the water supply it is not going to cause any more deaths than the average person watering their lawn for probably one or two summers. Not to mention golf courses, ball fields, school yards, cars being washed, …. you get my point, this could take all week. To all who have enjoyed one of these amenities know that you will be in line right next to these men who risk their lives for strangers when the man upstairs wants some answers. That is if you buy the stuff being spouted elsewhere on this page. Just to help ease the suffering of all the water babies the hoses are not 6″ unless those guys have the largest hands I have ever seen. Probably more like 2.5″ or 3″. Fluctuations in pressure come from the use of multiple trucks with human operators being used to pump the different lines. As for the use of time I agree. We should also stop the horrifying waste of time, taxpayer money and resources for U.S.O. shows for soldiers, and any civic function that does not directly result in the saving of lives. Give me a break. Find someone else to pick on. My family members ask me why I go and get in the big red truck every third day so I can make less per hour than the guy who sits in an air conditioned truck and uses an automated arm to dump the trash outside the double wide that we stay in next to our mold infested station that has been condemned. I just tell them it is the gratitude of people like you who have nothing better to do than give me a hard time if I should ever try to have fun or blow off some steam. Good thing those of us that relish in waste and the destruction of the planet can forget about those comments when the alarm sounds. I can gladly report that you never distracted me when I went to the Mississippi coast after a certain hurricane affected many people who know how to be grateful for all of their blessings. Maybe next week you can rag on some brave soldiers who are off defending your right to sit at home and give them a hard time. Some of them come from the fire station so they should probably be given an extra tough grilling. Try realizing that it is just a video. More important issues are debated by a solitary person on the toilet in the morning. Sorry for the spelling. Have a nice day!

Big correction MEN and WOMEN who risk their lives.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
The Mythbusters did a show on this exact video. The episode was called ‘Viral Hour’ I think.
December 5th, 2008 at 7:04 am
Those men are from Istabul city Fire Department, Event is a little demonstration of their skills, it is not photoshopped and it’s not new.
December 7th, 2008 at 12:18 am
that was pretty fucking awesome.
how will we use this technology
December 8th, 2008 at 7:32 am
i remember they did this at one of the royal shows.
they landed it a bit more gracefully with the queen watching tho.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
little jimmy didnt make it.
he was left in the burning flames of his 2 story house.
good thing the firemen could get there in time.
oh wait.
December 11th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I’m a firefighter, and we get to have fun with shit like this all the time. Well, maybe not exactly like this haha. Those hoses are very powerful. I’m not sure what sizes those hoses and nozzles are (because of the metric system), but I would guess they are around the same size/gpm as our 2 1/2″ blitz lines, with 250gpm/50psi adjustable nozzles.
Powerful indeed.
